XL Multipurpose Survival Scarf

$94.00

(1 customer review)

An essential piece of clothing with many more uses besides keeping your neck warm. The Swiss Army Knife of clothing! This is a significantly larger XL version of our standard Multipurpose Survival Scarf.

Description

Originally inspired by Mors Kochanski, this is first and foremost a scarf. The dead airspace trapped between the folds of the soft, diamond rip-stop nylon, works wonders to prevent cold air movement from stealing your precious body heat from unprotected neck areas.

  • It is open at one end in a long bag shape, so it can be used for many other things such as gathering leaves or grasses for a debris bed or fire-starting, gathering nuts, berry’s, and seeds, or stuffing with clothes for use as a pillowcase.
  • The neon orange interior allows it to be turned inside out to be used as a signal panel or to be worn during hunting season.
  • With a piece of strong cord one can easily use it for an improvised sling pack.
  • Use as a pre-filter before boiling water for consumption. (recommended that it is hand-washed with no soap before this use)
  • Lay on the ground to catch shavings for fire prep.
  • and the uses continue…

These XL versions are 29″ wide by 70″ long and weigh about 11 ounces.

This is exactly what I wanted. I saw a review of the smaller version, and it was mentioned that a larger version was forthcoming, so I held out. This is an extremely well made, multi purpose item. You are pretty much only limited by your imagination. Firstly, it is an incredibly comfortable, warm scarf. The inside is a high viz orange that is great for marking your camp. Just wrap and secure it around a tree, and you can explore around the vicinity of your campsite without fear of getting lost (as long as you stay within an area where you can still see the scarf). I immagine it would also make a great sleeping bag liner to give you extra warmth in the winter months. Also, you can collect a huge amount of kindling in it for a fire. Another use I thought of is to stuff it full of willow or spruce boughs to add extra comfort and insulation to your sleeping pad on cold nights. I’m sure there are many more uses that can be thought up.
I was s little bummed at first because I really wanted the Coyote version, but they were out of stock. However, I didn’t buy this for cosmetic purposes, and the green is actually growing on me. I can’t wait till the winter so I can really put this to good use. Mors Kochanski originated this idea, and he always said “the more you know, the less you bring”, so the fact that a similar item was part of his kit speaks to its versatility and usefulness.
