A Little History...
The Tuff Possum Gear story begins with a young boy named Richard who loved spending time in the great outdoors. His mother would sew pouches and bags for his outdoor activities but eventually challenged him to make them himself. Fast forward a few decades, Richard’s son Jayberry grew up with the same love for outdoor activities and needed quality outdoor gear, just like his father did.
When 13 year old Jayberry brought a small backpack design to his mother in 2012, she encouraged him to learn how to sew himself. After several years of learning to sew, Jayberry began posting his projects online and found a demand for purpose built outdoor gear, which led to the launch of Tuff Possum Gear in November of 2017.
Now Tuff Possum Gear is serving customers across the globe with high quality gear designed specifically for bushcrafters, prepared adventurers, woodsmen, and Every Day Carry enthusiasts. We specialize in durable, nylon sewn goods, but offer a range of tools and accessories to enhance your safety and experience outdoors! With Tuff Possum Gear, you are set to climb the heights of Machu Picchu, walk down the streets of New York City, or just enjoy an afternoon out in the woods!

Design Ethos
At Tuff Possum Gear, we care about producing the best products, with the best customer service to back it up, for the best community a company could ever wish for!
What makes a "good product" in a world with so many options and contexts?
So often, widgets and gadgets are designed with extra features for the sake of features, rather than caring about a clean, frustration-free, and reliable user experience. We aim to the standard. In our design process and even our approach to lifestyle, we are big fans of the 10 Rules of Good Design, created by legendary industrial designer, Dieter Rams:
- Good design is innovative
- Good design makes a product useful
- Good design is aesthetic
- Good design makes a product understandable
- Good design is unobtrusive
- Good design is honest
- Good design is long-lasting
- Good design is thorough down to the last detail
- Good design is environmentally-friendly
- Good design is as little design as possible
When we design a satchel, haversack, pouch, knife, or any other tool, these design principles are at the top of the process, keeping us on the track of truly Good Design.
